MORECAMBE BAY is the largest expanse of intertidal coast in the United Kingdom; stretching from the south west coast of Cumbria to Fleetwood in Lancashire. With some of the most beautiful coastline in Britain and a number of long distance walking routes including the Lancashire Coastal Way.
With the rivers Leven, Kent, Keer, Lune and Wyre draining into the Bay it creates unique wetlands habitats leading to the area being a Special Area of Conservation, Special Protection Area and a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
This scene faces north overlooking the estuary and barrier rock defences. Across the water you can make out some of the most famous Fells in the Lake District National Park, including: Scafell Pike, Helvellyn and Skiddaw.
