Tegg’s Nose, lies on the western edge of the Peak District, although outside the boundary of the national park and has a high point of 380 metres (1,250 ft). The name is a bit of mystery, with early maps siting it as Tegge’s Naze. No one is completely sure who or what Tegge was some suggesting it was an early Norse settler and others suggesting is was a sheep (teg being an early word of the animal). Either way this hill has a nose. The area shows signs of Bronze Age activity meaning people were likely moving through these hills over 3,000 years ago. It was part of the Royal Forest of Macclesfield hunting grounds before becoming a quarry famous for Windyway Blue & Tegg’s Nose Pink stone.
This scene faces norther and slightly east, depicts the nose almost head on from the base.
