Three Shires Head is a tripoint on Axe Edge Moor, meaning three counties converge on this spot, the site has long been a natural meeting point for people moving between the regions of Cheshire, Derbyshire & Staffordshire. The main landmark here the Grade II-listed possible 18th century, Packhorse bridge which was built for trade of salt, lime, coal, and textiles, not for smugglers or today’s ramblers that also use the crossing. It bridges Panniers Pool which was an important stop on the historic packhorse route where the horses where able to drink from the shallow pool; though today it’s a popular wild swimming spot.
