Situated in the Eryri National Park (Snowdonia), this distinct three peaked summit is aptly named Tryfan, or Tri Faen meaning Three Rocks/Three Peaks in the Welsh Language of Cymraeg. At 917.5 metres (3,010 feet) above sea level this popular scrambling mountain was voted Britain’s favourite mountain in 2014 (Trail Magazine).
Legend has it that Tryfan is the final resting place of Sir Bedivere (Bedwyr), one of King Arthur's most trusted knights, who was tasked with returning Arthur’s sword, Excalibur, to the Lady of the Lake - which was perhaps thrown into nearby Llyn Ogwen?
This scene faces northeast looking up at the impressive structure from a point between the nearby lakes of Llyn Idwal and Llyn Bochlwyd (although neither are visible).
