Old Man of Coniston artwork in yellows, oranges, red and blues

Welcome

Created by artist and hiker Mark Croasdale, Marking The Wild turns real hikes into bold, joyful artwork — capturing the colours, contours, and quiet moments of the British landscape.

Each piece begins with a walk.

Sometimes muddy, often magical, always led by curiosity and a pencil in hand.

This is artwork made to honour the trail, celebrate the journey, and bring the outdoors home.

Alongside each print, you’ll find The Footnotes — a companion of sketches, hand-drawn route maps, reflections from the path, and small, story-filled extras.

THE FOOTNOTES

Not everything fits in a frame.
Some parts of the walk live better in a story, a sketch, or a line on a map.

That’s where The Footnotes come in...

MEET US

I didn’t set out to be an artist. I just started walking.

It was my dog, Pika (small, nervous, joyful) who taught me how.

She needed the outdoors, and eventually, so did I. We walked through woods, over hills, along the edges of things. Bit by bit, I learned how to look not just at where we were going, but at where we were...
